MED4PED

Mobility Experience Decision support system for pre-assessing PEDedestrian walkability through on-site and off-site simulation

Lorenzo MUSSONE (docente coordinatore), Barbara Ester Adele PIGA, Giandomenico CARUSO, Valeria Jocelyn ARANDA SALGADO

The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the transformation of mobility behavior, particularly in urban settings, changing the physical environment and people’s lifestyles. To face this change, effective management methods are needed to ensure informed mobility decision-making. In this framework, MED4PED foresees the development of an integrated system supporting decision-making through data analysis and virtual-reality simulation: this allows to anticipate the outcomes of walking experience, and related solutions from an objective and perceptual point of view. The interdisciplinary methodology will be developed thanks to the competences of the group with the application to significant pilot cases. The proposed solution will be based on the mobility simulation experiences of research laboratories. The MED4PED will be configured as a service (Decision Support System) for Public Administrations and other actors involved in mobility decisions.

DABC role

The role of ABC in the project MED4PED is twofold. 1) It is the coordinator of the 4 disciplinary components that support the project and is responsible for the strategic planning of the research. 2) It develops the traffic analysis and micro-simulations for the present situation and possible scenarios to be used in pedestrian studies.
