Integrated and Sustainable Urban Regeneration Milan – Rio

The overall objective of the project is to strengthen and consolidate the partnership between Rio de Janeiro and Milan local authorities through the definition and implementation of sustainable integrated urban regeneration policies and actions, improving urban governance, social inclusiveness, urban resilience and fight climate change in accordance with 2030 Agenda. In order to improve urban governance, the project includes a capacity building program for Rio’s authorities for the implementation of a sustainable, adaptable, replicable and integrated urban regeneration methodology for vulnerable areas within consolidated urban fabric. Further project goals are: 1) ensuring socio economic inclusiveness of vulnerable groups living in marginalized and segregated ares of the Vila Operária Salvador de Sá region through the enhancement of immaterial and material cultural heritage, and 2) greening of Rio de Janeiro by applying nature-based solutions on urban regeneration in the Papa Couve River Basin.

DABC role

• Milan-Rio transfer of know-how for leaders and technicians on the Integrated Modification Methodology (IMM).
• Support in the design of the Integrated Sustainable Urban Regeneration Plan (ISURP) in Papa Couve River Basin with a focus on Vila Operária Salvador de Sá.
• Testing and Implementation of the IMM for an integrated assessment of infrastructures, water system and environmental aspects.
• Identification and co-design of pilot projects based on ISURP.
