SMART Culture

The “Smart Culture” targets were: 1. to study and establish a platform that gave the users the possibility to easily access to Cultural Heritage; 2. to define multi-digitalization methods that permit viewing online digital models related to pieces of arts and query them obtaining information and insights; 3. to support the work of the scientists with the implementation of an advanced diagnostic system aimed at the protection and safeguarding of Cultural Heritage.
Thanks to the collaboration between three Departments of Politecnico di Milano (ABC, CMIC and FIS) it was possible to carry forward a study focused on the procedures for the registration, alignment and integration of several data, surveyed with different methodologies and instruments.

DABC role

The project involved research teams from three Departments: DABC, CMIC and FIS (lead partner). DABC-based 3DSgroup leaded the creation of models with multi-digitization techniques (photogrammetry and scanner). The group studied and selected standard procedures for the three-dimensional survey and digitization of small and medium-scale objects (from 1: 1 to 1:5 scale) using scanning and automatic image-based methods (calibration procedures and on-site control of three-dimensional surveys, metric validation of the 3D model).
