After gaining her diploma in Industrial Design from SPD Scuola Politecnica di Design in Milan in 1981, she graduated in Architecture from the Politecnico di Milano in 1986.

In 1993 she gained her PhD in Architectural Composition from IUAV, Venice, with a dissertation entitled “Saggio sulla costruzione. Una ricerca sul ruolo della costruzione nel progetto di architettura in rapporto a tipologia e decorazione” (“Essay on construction. Research into the role of construction and architectural design in relation to type and decoration”).

In 1994-95 she completed a PhD research project entitled “I luoghi della città moderna. La periferia come occasione di intervento nella città” (“The places of the modern city. The outskirts as an opportunity to take action in the city”), and worked on organising the exhibition entitled Il centro altrove (coordinated by A. Monestiroli) held at La Triennale di Milano.

Since 1996 she has been a researcher in Architectural and Urban Composition, while holding temporary teaching roles at the University of Camerinos Faculty of Architecture and at IUAV in Venice. Since 2002 she has been an associate professor at the Politecnico’s School of Civil Architecture. In 2012 she obtained the national qualification of full professor.

Since 2003 she has been a member of the teaching staff body for the PhD in Architectural Composition at IUAV, Venice.

Her research activities include the theory of architecture, urban design and the role of construction in design. In recent years she has studied compositional principles for residential developments and the issue of redevelopment of brownfield sites and former military zones.

She participates in design contests, winning the Luigi Cosenza National Architecture Award in 1996.
