Massimo teaches post-graduate courses in the Master of Science in Building Engineering and Architecture programme at Politecnico di Milano, specifically he teaches Sustainable Multisciplinary Design Process (SMDP); Integrated Modification Methodology (IMM) for built Environment and he is responsible of the Final Design Studio Lab. He does research and consulting in sustainable and energy efficient urban design, and architecture.

His main areas of expertise are: sustainable architecture, master planning, urban systems ecology. His research work emphasizes the relationship between urban morphology and energy consumption, specifically related with the transformation of urban context towards energy efficiency and urban development environmentally oriented. He runs IMMdesignLab, www.immdesignlab.com a multidisciplinary design laboratory that leads various international projects aiming to transform, through an innovative methodology, existing urban contexts seen as Complex Adaptive Systems into more sustainable, energy efficient forms.
