Lorenzo Mussone

Master Degree in Electronic Engineering at the University of Pavia, academic year 1980/1981.
PhD in Transportation Engineering at the Polytechnic of Milan in 1995.
Since 1999 he was Assistant Professor in Transportation Engineering, at the Polytechnic of Turin.
In 2005 he moved back to Politecnico di Milano.

Since 2011 he is Associate Professor in Transportation Engineering at the Politecnico di Milano.
In 2014 he received the qualification for full professor in Transportation Engineering.

Since 2005 he is in the editorial board of Accident Analysis and Prevention journal and Transportation research interdisciplinary perspectives.. He is in the panel of refere of many transportation journals.

The main scientific activities concern modelling by means of different techniques: partial derivative macroscopic equations, microscopic simulation, neural networks, swarm intelligence; data mining, and graph theory.
Main fields of research are:

  • road accident data analysis;
  • vehicular flow control in urban road networks and motorways;
  • capacity calculation of complex railway systems;
  • driver behaviour and performance analysis;
  • roundabouts;
  • application of AI tools to transportation analysis and modelling;
  • ITS applications and performance analysis.

He wrote more than 200 papers on national and international journals.
