MEDIOLANUM MMXV

Implementing knowledge and developing conservation actions to promote the use of the architectural heritage of Milan for Expo 2015

Paolo GASPAROLI (docente coordinatore), Chiara LIVRAGHI, Matteo SCALTRITTI

The project aimed to extend and strengthen the research activities carried out by the partner universities on the archaeological heritage of Milan. The in-depth knowledge of the heritage, achieved through the archaeological, technological and structural inspection of the sites, carried out during the previous project “Milano Archeologia”, funded by Fondazione Cariplo, allowed two lines of action to be undertaken:
1) specific analyses or research on transversal archaeological themes and dissemination through the development of an integrated multi-level communication plan, including the production of dissemination material;
2) actions aimed at deepening the aspects related to the conservation, restoration and accessibility of the sites, with the drafting of intervention plans and guidelines for use, and the elaboration of surveys and graphic rendering that allow the virtual use of non-accessible sites.

DABC role

The project involved research teams from DABC and DAStU Departments. The activities carried out by DABC included: inspection activities on the archaeological site; field verification of the needs of use; production of guidelines for the drafting of conservation plans and definition of intervention priorities; definition of guidelines to ensure better conditions for public use of the sites.
