Confronting Wicked Problems: Adapting Architectural Education to the New Situation in Europe

The thinking behind the project was that architecture, as an education, a discipline, and a profession, must redefine and release its potential for problem-solving and innovation within the new economic and societal context, to face, for instance, the challenges of sustainable development or those related to the reuse of the huge European architectural heritage.
The project has tested and developed innovative practices in local teaching laboratories and provided a platform for making the results available to relevant schools. Moreover, it provided the educational institutions involved with insights to develop their systems and curriculum for Life-long learning, involving post-graduate target groups. In this way the project also has given input to systems for Continuous professional development (CPD), aiming at improving social impact and employability of European architects.

DABC role

DABC promoted the activities and the students workshops of “Confronting Wicked Problems: Adapting Architectural Education to the New Situation in Europe” on the Sustainability issues with the schools of Oslo, Delft and Bucharest and organized the final workshop in Politecnico Bovisa in May 2017.
