BIG_SMAART

BIM & GIS for Spatial and Multidimensional Archaeological Artefacts and Techniques

Luigi FREGONESE (docente coordinatore)

BIG_SMAART is aimed at organizing the information referred to the documentation and study of archaeological contexts at spatial and/or territorial level through the design of an information infrastructure that simplifies the interoperability between GIS (Geographic Information System) and BIM (Building Information Modeling) systems and optimises the management of several heterogeneous data.
BIG_SMAART intends to enhance the functionality of the GIS and BIM through the definition of libraries of archaeological parametric objects built on the basis of international standards, ontologies and domain thesauri according to Open Science principles.
The context in which the process is tested is the Vesuvian area, rich in information about life and technologies in use in the Roman world.
The project is developed in three phases: setting up an information model based on a sample from the Vesuvian context; surveying and modelling a significant sample of parametric objects; implementation of an information platform for the creation of an interoperable archive of archaeological data.
