Tradition and/or hybridisation?
Circulation of polytechnic project culture between Italy and Argentina
Objectives
The purpose of the research, which integrates the contribution of PhD students, research fellows and lecturers belonging to the disciplinary scientific sectors ICAR/17 and ICAR/18, is aimed to understand and valorise the heritage of shared knowledge that has arisen from the relations with Argentina by designers (architects, engineers and designers) of Milanese polytechnic training since the end of the Second World War.
Programme
A rich archive patrimony, currently fragmented in different public and private funds, in Italy and abroad, documents transatlantic experiences of a professional and/or academic nature that involved prominent figures – such as Ernesto Nathan Rogers, Franca Helg, Gae Aulenti, Marco Zanuso and Maurizio Mazzocchi – and that both stimulated the birth of a dense network of collaborations and exchanges with local technicians and intellectuals and enriched the culture of design in Milan.
The reconstruction of this complex network of exchanges and mutual contributions, through the dissemination and digital enhancement of the materials describing it, will be an important stimulus to increase knowledge and foster the development of the specific cultural identities involved.
