The project suggests an innovative strategy as a response to the limitations of the traditional damage assessment methods used for the detection of safe structures after earthquakes. The proposal employs the existing infrastructure of fiber optic (FO) cables within buildings for the purpose of structural health monitoring (SHM). This approach enables remote data collection and emerges as a cost-effective and efficient means of gathering data from buildings. By eliminating the need for extensive sensor installations and human-dependent visual assessments, these strategy offers a rapid and cost-efficient solution and has the potential to redefine post-earthquake damage assessment.
