HEROES
HEROES
Multi-Hazard Observatory for Resilient Historic Centres
Branka Cuca (Principal Invetigator)
HEROES addresses the growing exposure of historic centres to climate and multi-hazard risks by bridging the gap between the availability of data and digital documentation and their effective use in actionable mitigation strategies.
The project will strengthen the scientific excellence and institutional capacity of the Cyprus University of Technology through the development of a Multi-Hazard Risk Mitigation Decision Support Platform based on a digital-twin approach. The platform will integrate Earth Observation, UAV data, photogrammetry, GIS and environmental modelling, linking hazard indicators – including heat, extreme rainfall and fire weather – with vulnerability and condition data for historic urban fabric.
HEROES will introduce continuous monitoring cycles, combining seasonal surveys with event-responsive assessments to provide traceable, updatable and replicable decision support. Through staff exchanges, joint research, training schools and capacity-building workshops, the consortium will transfer expertise to CUT and validate the approach through demonstrators in Cyprus and other European sites. The project will contribute to climate adaptation, digital transformation and the sustainable management of cultural heritage.
