X&Aid

pattern
The unit conducts in-situ experimental research, including in collaboration with other universities and research institutions, as well as technical and scientific consultancy. Its activities integrate the assessment of environmental conditions in indoor spaces (air quality and thermal comfort), the diagnosis of the causes of inadequate conditions, and the design of corrective solutions involving the building envelope, HVAC terminal units and systems, including the implementation of mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MVHR) systems. The unit is equipped with instruments for both instantaneous measurements and long-term monitoring of indoor and outdoor environmental parameters, as well as the performance of building envelopes and ventilation systems. The research team has an interdisciplinary profile, combining expertise in Building and Environmental Physics, Building Technology, and General and Applied Hygiene.

Works

The following is a selection of major projects developed in recent years, where advanced research converges with practical application, generating outcomes that support civil society, public institutions, and the business sector.

Services

Below are the services offered by the X&Aid Unit to students, teachers, researchers and businesses

Diagnosis of Environmental Conditions in Indoor Spaces

Advanced diagnostic activities for indoor air quality and thermal comfort using state-of-the-art measurement and monitoring equipment to analyse indoor and outdoor parameters, as well as the performance of the building envelope and HVAC terminal units.

Solutions for indoor air quality and thermal comfort

Research and design consultancy activities for the implementation of building envelope and HVAC system solutions, including Mechanical Ventilation systems, aimed at achieving high levels of indoor air quality and thermal comfort in enclosed spaces.
