S(P)EEDKITS (Rapid deployable kits as seeds for self-recovery)

2012-2016

The S(p)eedkit project, part of the EU's Seventh Framework Programme, develops innovative emergency kits to speed up response times and support the rapid transition from crisis to recovery for humanitarian organisations. With contributions from several European partners, the project includes lightweight solutions for housing, water storage, bioenergy and modular packaging that reduces weight and improves transportability.
The Polytechnic of Milan plays a key role in the design of portable and easy-to-use kits and new advanced shelters, including the "Cocoon" module for privacy and the "Textile Wall" for adaptable dividers, patenting the latter. Tested in Africa, the kits have received Red Cross approval and are ready for global adoption by ONGs.
