PolRe - Textile Innovation Mantova workshop

2024

The project “Weaving Landscapes” combined ancient artisan techniques from the Mantua area with innovative materials to create eco-sustainable solutions in architecture and design. Held in Rivalta sul Mincio l’8 and on 9 May 2024, the workshop involved 50 students from the Polytechnic University of Milan, led by local teachers and artisans, in collaboration with the Ethnographic Museum of River Crafts, the Genius Loci Mincio association, the PolRe company and the Municipality of Rodigo.
In the first phase, students learned and practiced traditional marsh reed braiding techniques, under the guidance of expert craftsmen. Subsequently, they developed innovative models using ultra-light and recycled materials supplied by PolRe, creating architectural structures and furnishing accessories that combine tradition and innovation.
The creations range from elements for shading facades to small pavilions, lamps and furnishing objects, with particular attention to environmental sustainability and flexibility of use. Furthermore, patented materials allow integration with smart technologies for environmental monitoring, adding interactive features to structures.
