MATE.RIA - Metodi e Azioni per il Trattamento Ecologico dei TEssili post-consumo e il loro Riciclo Innovativo in Architettura

2022-2024
The project highlights the importance of the circular economy in mitigating the environmental impact of the highly polluting textile and fashion industries. With a textile waste recycling rate of just 15% and a significant contribution to resource consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, the circular approach aims to transform textile waste into resources, reducing waste and dependence on raw materials. The proposed strategy includes: Sectoral circularity, optimizing the recycling of post-production waste and Intersectoral circularity, developing products for construction and furniture from post-consumer waste.
The project is inspired by European regulations such as Legislative Decree no. 116/2020 and Directive 2008/98/EC, which promote the separation and recycling of textile waste, as well as counteracting exports of waste to developing countries. The aim is to create short supply chains to manage waste locally, addressing technical challenges such as the integration of recycled synthetic yarns with post-consumer ones.
The final objective is to develop innovative, economically sustainable solutions to collect, select and recycle textile waste, enhancing it with a view to intersectoral reuse and waste reduction.
