Actuaded knit - Texilemorphosis Milan Design Week

2025
Actuated Knit Textilemorphosis showcases a selection of projects that over the years have most distinguished the work of the laboratory and its group of professors, researchers, doctoral students and students in the field of technological integration between textile and ultralight construction systems to respond to the new needs of reduction of the embodied energy, adaptability, comfort and circularity of the construction systems of the present and the future.
Textile shielding systems that integrate sensors and servo-actuators capable of transforming building envelopes into real skins inspired by living organisms, attributing and enhancing real-time control characteristics of solar radiation, humidity or natural ventilation; membranes and skins capable of condensing air humidity and collecting it in order to reduce the water consumption of drinking water, insulating systems obtained by the growth of living organisms or by the reuse of fibres from the recovery of clothing that is no longer usable.
The high turnover of projects that from research land in industrial production and in architecture and construction engineering testify to the value of the rigorous research conducted by the Polytechnic of Milan in its long history.
Actuated Knit Textilemorphosis promotes a discussion on the future of circularity, aesthetics, technological integration, functionality and transformability of buildings, especially in the face of the challenges with which the anthropized environment and environmental upheavals call us to measure ourselves.
Actuated Knit Textilemorphosis is an invitation to rethink buildings in a lighter and more performative way, like a light but highly protective third skin, beyond our own skin and the clothes we wear. The exhibition encourages a holistic approach to design that improves the well-being and health of environments through technology, circularity and architecture, paving the way for the construction technologies of tomorrow.
