Gazzola Veronica
Researcher
Engineer and Researcher specialized in Land Use Planning and Urban Development. She conducts scholarly investigations on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA), with the objective of supporting integrated planning processes and proactive risk management, guided by principles of resilience and sustainability. She is an expert in analyzing the vulnerability and exposure dynamics of urban and territorial systems, utilizing GIS tools and multi-risk assessment models across various spatial and temporal scales. In these research fields, she offers consultancy and technical-scientific support to public administration entities, private organizations, and corporations, and participates in national and international scientific research initiatives. Furthermore, she teaches academic courses to raise awareness among architects, urban planners, and engineers about their roles in risk mitigation, with particular emphasis on long-term measures applicable to both existing settlements and new urban developments.
Career
2020 - Member of Association of Engineers, Pavia (Italy)
2018 - PhD in Civil Engineering and Architecture (cum laude) at University of Pavia
2014 - MSc in Building Engineering and Architecture at University of Pavia
Research
Research activities focus on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) to support proactive planning and management in risk-prone contexts, in line with resilience (mitigation and adaptation) and sustainability principles. She is an expert in analyzing the vulnerability and exposure dynamics of urban and territorial systems, using GIS tools and multi-risk assessment models at various spatial and temporal scales. In her research, she adopts a multidisciplinary approach, collaborating with colleagues across diverse scientific fields (including seismic and hydraulic engineers and geologists) to promote integrated design and planning that enhance the resilience of urban fabrics and territorial assets in the face of natural and/or anthropogenic risks.
