Lupica Spagnolo Sonia
Associate Professor
For over 20 years, she has been working on information management for building process optimisation, applying ICT solutions to a wide range of applications for the AECO industry, including the international platform for durability, the Italian national platform INNOVance, the ERP management system BIMtoORDER, the interoperable BIM library for construction products BIMReL, and the BIM-based renovation toolkit BIM4EEB.She is the Principal Investigator of the PRIN 2022 project digITER “Digital Information Technologies for Life-Cycle Management from E-Permit Requirements”, which started in February 2025. She previously coordinated four experimental programmes at Politecnico di Milano—three focused on photocatalytic materials and one on ETICS. In addition, she collaborated with the Italian ITC-CNR (Institute for Construction Technologies – National Research Council) and the French CSTB (Centre Scientifique et Technique du Bâtiment), contributing to the development of new methods and tools for service life prediction. She was a member of CIB W080 “Prediction of Service Life of Building Materials and Components” and CIB TG 90 “Information Integration in Construction”.
Career
Ph.D. in Building Systems and Processes and a Master of Science in Building Engineering.
Research
Her research interests and expertise focus on durability, maintenance management, information integration in construction, performance decay over time, and energy efficiency.
Selected Publications
She is the author of approximately 100 publications, including 8 books, 2 e-books, 10 papers in ISI-indexed journals, 26 papers in peer-reviewed journals, more than 40 papers in conference proceedings, and 10 chapters in research monographs.
Community Service
She has received several scientific appointments, serving as a keynote speaker at international conferences, scientific expert for CEN/TC 442 on Building Information Modelling—WG 3 “Information Delivery Specification”, member of editorial scientific committees, and member of steering and scientific committees for international conferences. She has also been reviewer for ISI- and SCOPUS-indexed scientific journals and Guest Editor of a Special Issue of the open-access journal Sustainability. She is a member of the ABC PhD Board at Politecnico di Milano, and she holds several institutional roles, including Deputy Dean, member of the Quality Assurance Board (AQ AVA), member of the Admission Committee for the Master of Science in Management of the Built Environment.
