Ruta Matteo Francesco

He is associate professor of Production and Management of the Built Environment at Politecnico di Milano, Building engineer and PhD, he teaches Design of Construction Elements, Project Management, Interdisciplinary Project Work and Eco-Building Design at the School of Architecture, Urban Planning and Construction Engineering on the Milan and Xi'An (China) campuses. He is also the scientific editor of Arketipo: International review of architecture and building engineering.He was the head of the five-year Master Degree Course in Architectural Engineering of the Politecnico di Milano (2015-2022). His research efforts area concentrated on the technological innovation of products - with a particular attention to the improvement of the operational and environmental quality of building components - and on the engineering of complex projects with three-dimensional, parametric design tools. From 2023 he is curator of the international Festival “Milano Arch Week” organised and promoted annually by: Comune di Milano, Politecnico di Milano, Triennale Milano.

MSc in Building Engineering with honours at Politecnico di Milano in 1999.

PhD in Building Engineering at Politecnico di Milano in 2003.

Research

His main research activities are articulated in the following fields:

• theories of innovation in the construction sector;
• use of innovative materials for the building envelope;
• construction technologies for nearly zero
• energy buildings;
• innovative building components and systems;
• representation and construction techniques of complex shapes

The design of the experimental residential building in Lodi and the related research activities were granted the following awards:

• “Next Energy Award 2006” – category “Buildings under construction”. Prize organised by Fiera Milano International with the Italian Ministerial Department for Environment and Territory and the Kyoto Club
• “Eurosolar Italia Award 2006” – category “Solar Architecture and Urban Planning”
• “Organisms with awareness: design and construction of low-energy buildings 2008” – category “Non-residential buildings”

Community Service

Since 2016 he is the scientific editor of Arketipo: International review of architecture and building engineering.
