Steel And Recycled Concrete Slab

Marco Simoncelli (Principal Investigator)

Reducing the construction sector’s environmental impact is globally crucial. Climate change drives the development of eco-friendly materials and construction methods. Using recycled materials, especially in urban areas where construction waste is problematic, is vital. The SARCOS project aims to integrate recycled aggregates into steel-concrete composite slabs, enhancing sustainability. Composite slabs efficiently combine concrete’s strength with steel sheeting’s support. Yet, using natural aggregates depletes resources and generates waste. SARCOS focuses on: assessing the impact of recycled aggregates on concrete’s properties when partially replacing natural ones; developing an experimental protocol for sustainable concrete slabs; evaluating various recycled aggregates’ effects on slab behavior; creating advanced models for technical guidance; analyzing the slab’s lifecycle, considering economic and environmental costs.

  • DABC Activities

The SARCOS project aims to extend the use of recycled aggregates to steel-concrete slabs. DABC staff will work on developing the bibliography, numerical modeling of experimental results, life cycle assessment, and dissemination of results.
