MI-TRAP

MItigating TRansport-related Air Pollution in Europe

Julia Nerantzia Tzortzi (Principal Investigator)

Air Quality in urban areas and other hot spots, where transport emissions induce a large impact on human exposure, remains an environmental problem of high complexity with strong public interest. The metrics and parameterization employed on the data analyzed from the environmental monitoring networks and measurement systems are poorly representing the material initially emitted by the specifications of these engines certified by the manufacturers and the control legislation. It is therefore difficult to link the health and other environmental effects to specific sources or modes of transport with few exceptions. MI-TRAP provides innovative means in terms of monitoring devices and schemes of data analysis and management and a network of monitoring stations close to Transport emission hots, in order to remedy the traceability of the emitted pollutants from transport sources to the atmosphere and the assessment of applied legislation and control measures through a mitigating solution Toolbox.

  • DABC Activities

POLIMI's role in MI-TRAP is to design and implement Natural Based Solutions (NBS) in the case study cities: Milan, Athens-Piraeus, Copenhagen, and Lisbon. NBS will be implemented in polluted areas of cities and near highways and airports located in urban areas (e.g., Linate Airport in Milan).
