BeatTheHeat
Expansion, reusability, and consolidation of the Climate-Resilient Cities Data Space
Alberto Celani (Principal Investigator)
BeatTheHeat II consolidates and expands the BeatTheHeat data space, launched through a previous European pilot, to demonstrate how interoperable data can support climate-resilient urban services. The project involves two new pilot cities, Codogno and Kalamata, and turns the initiative into an operational, reusable and cross-border data space.
The project will develop and test a standardised process for onboarding new cities, documenting its technical, legal and governance requirements. In Kalamata, sustainable mobility services will be deployed, including the reuse of EcoRoutes and a smart cycling-routing service that integrates heat, traffic and air-quality data.
In Codogno, POLIMI co-leads the development of an urban service based on a Local Digital Twin and an environmental sensing network. The system will generate dynamic urban-heat maps and dashboards to support resilience planning measures such as green infrastructure, shading and cool pavements. BeatTheHeat II will therefore strengthen cities’ capacity to address urban heat islands, reduce climate-risk exposure and plan more sustainable urban policies.
