TensiNet – Tensioned Membrane Structure

TENSINET FREE WEBINAR – Membrane Architecture, Fluoropolymers and PFAS Restriction Process

The TensiNet Association (Italian Regional Representative: Alessandra Zanelli) is pleased to announce a free webinar aimed at facilitating the exchange of information on the EU PFAS restriction process and its potential consequences at an international level for Textile Architecture.

This webinar will also encourage collaboration among TensiNet members and key stakeholders in the membrane architecture sector in preparation for the upcoming European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) Socio-Economic Analysis Committee (SEAC) consultation.

The event is organised by the TensiNet Working Group on Sustainability and Comfort, coordinated by Carol Monticelli (Politecnico di Milano), together with its industrial members.

Why this webinar matters

PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are a diverse family of chemicals. What do PFAS mean throughout the life cycle (production, operational life and end-of-life) of architectural textiles and films?

Not all PFAS are the same and each substance should be assessed individually.

ETFE (Ethylene Tetrafluoroethylene), for example, has a unique combination of properties that makes it indispensable in specific sectors, particularly tensile membrane architecture.

A blanket regulation against all PFAS would result in the unavailability of tensioned membranes required for lightweight and durable architectural structures.

Members of the Fluoropolymer Product Group (FPG) provide the industry and downstream users with robust safety information and best-practice guidelines. Their comprehensive guidance covers key materials widely used in tensile architecture, including PTFE, ETFE, FEP, PFA and PVDF.

The FPG and its members are committed to:

  • Safe use of fluoropolymers
  • Sustainable manufacturing processes
  • Responsible end-of-life solutions

When properly controlled, the production, use and disposal of fluoropolymers are safe.

Programme

  • Lectures: 10:00 – 11:20
  • Discussion & Q&A: 11:20 – 12:00

Who should attend

All stakeholders involved in the building and construction process are welcome. Companies are especially encouraged to invite quality managers, sustainability officers, or R&D personnel.
