Role of innovative thermal networks in the decarbonization of thermal uses

State of the art and contributions from ongoing LIFE projects

As part of efforts to achieve more sustainable paradigms, energy use in the built environment is being considered, with a particular focus on European decarbonization targets for thermal energy use. In this context, district heating/cooling (DHC) systems can make an important contribution.
For the concrete evolution and expansion of the DHC sector, it is necessary to transparently represent the state of the art, understand the real needs of operators, and promote effective coordination of research, information, and capacity building.
Among the many projects currently underway on this topic, the Life Skills4DHC project offers the opportunity to create knowledge and promote the concrete development of skills on the topic of decarbonized DHC based on renewable thermal sources and waste heat.
This results in the creation of a closer link between research and the professional world, where companies increasingly need profiles with characteristics and skills that are difficult to acquire through traditional training courses and schemes. The event constructively opens the debate on these issues, involving experts in the field and drawing on lessons learned from international experiences.
