Digitization of anthropoid sarcophagi

2021

The photogrammetric and scanner survey of five anthropoid sarcophagi of the XXIV-XXVI dynasty, one of the nuclei of excellence of the museum's Egyptian Collection, has allowed the production of the relevant three-dimensional models, which can have a series of applications both in the field of research and in that of dissemination.
The digitization activity, conducted by the Polytechnic of Milan, saw the use of two different techniques for data acquisition that responded to different needs. Specifically, structured light laser techniques and photogrammetric techniques have been adopted.
The digitization activity involved the five different sarcophagi, each of them composed of two parts: lid and riverbed.
The three-dimensional models of the sarcophagi thus obtained are already available to the scientific community for the study of the pictorial and textual layout, waiting to make them also available to the museum public. These also provide important information for possible conservative interventions and interdisciplinary studies.
