BETTER POLICY: Building Environmental Tools To Empower Responsive Policies Outreaching LIfeCYcle

2023-2025

Over the last twenty years, the Life Cycle (LC) and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodologies have been introduced in corporate contexts, while there has been no equal success in the institutional context. At the same time, while these methods have been recognized as effective at a technical level (CE COM 215, 2015), their effective integration into community and public administration (PA) policies appears marginal.
The project aims to update and make more effective the policies of Italian PAs regarding the environmental sustainability of buildings thanks to the implementation of environmental criteria, evaluation-verification-monitoring procedures, reference targets/benchmarks based on LCA methods. The National Relevance of the proposed research lies in the extensive socio-economic implications and expected impacts connected to the diffusion among operators in the construction sector, along the entire value chain, of sustainability evaluation methods of proven effectiveness and aligned with international standards.
