Inauguration of new DABC spaces
Sharing, sustainability and well-being at the heart of the Campus Leonardo redevelopment project

“Rethinking workspaces as places for sharing, because through knowledge and the exchange of ideas things become easier than remaining isolated in one’s own room.”
With these words, Rector Donatella Sciuto opened the inauguration of the new spaces of Building 5, acquired and redeveloped by the ABC Department.
The spaces designed to foster sharing and dialogue represent an added value and a winning model for the future of an in-person university. This was highlighted by Graziano Dragoni, Director of the Politecnico, who emphasized the importance of environments that support new ways of working and interacting.
As part of the historic Leonardo Campus, the building underwent an architectural intervention that carefully respected its original structure. The project successfully addressed the needs of the Department while following principles of energy sustainability and safety, as noted by Gianluca Noto, Head of the Technical and Building Area.
“The project will continue,” concluded Stefano Capolongo, Director of DABC, “but I am pleased to have achieved this goal during my term, because one of the major themes I have worked on in recent years is precisely that of caring.”
Thanks to the acquisition of over 400 square meters of new space, the number of workstations increased from 74 to 271. These environments are conceived not only as workplaces, but also as a true Living Lab, equipped with sensors to monitor air quality, CO₂ levels, safety and people’s well-being.
Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, visitors toured the new spaces—co-working areas, meeting rooms, relaxation zones and shared spaces—characterized by a clean and bright design and enhanced by the table designed by architect Kengo Kuma, symbolizing dialogue between architecture, people and innovation.
