COST ACTION TU1406

Quality specifications for roadway bridges, standardization at a European level

Maria Pina LIMONGELLI (docente coordinatore), Pier Francesco GIORDANO, Nisrine MAKHOUL, Zehra Irem TURKSEZER

During the implementation of asset management strategies, maintenance actions are required to keep assets at a desired performance level. In case of roadway bridges, specific performance indicators are established for their components. These indicators can be qualitative or quantitative based, and they can be obtained during principal inspections, through a visual examination, a non-destructive test or a temporary or permanent monitoring system. Then, the indicators are compared with performance goals, to evaluate if the quality control plan is accomplished.

DABC role

Leader of the Innovation Subgroup in charge for the assessment of the current research and innovation related to indicators and sensing technologies to assess the structural performance. The work was focused on innovative indicators and technologies that can improve accuracy and precision of quality controls of roadway bridges, thus achieving higher performances in terms of safety.
