OpenAgri – New Skills for new Jobs in Peri-urban Agriculture

Paola CAPUTO (docente coordinatore), Simone FERRARI, Federica ZAGARELLA, Giulio FERLA

The UIA programme aims to involve urban areas in a large-scale experimentation laboratory.
The focus of the Open Agri project is the creation of new jobs and new development opportunities in the Porta Romana-Vettabbia area in Milan, where rural and urban meet, with the creation of an Innovation Hub for peri-urban agriculture, also involving the rehabilitation of Cascina Nosedo and the reuse, for agricultural purposes, of the Vaiano Valle farmland (about 30 ha).
The project has enabled new connections in the area and new initiatives by the Municipality and MM spa. The analysis also included an in-depth study of the energy and environmental conditions of the project area.

DABC role

• Energy, environmental and metabolic analysis of the area and Cascina Nosedo.
• Analysis of agricultural supply chains with LCA approach.
• Evaluation of similar successful experiences.
• Definition and calculation of energy-environmental KPIs.
