The general objective of the project is to study the basic operating conditions for the establishment of a supply chain consortium for the recycling and re-use of textile fractions, based on two main strategies: 1) the optimisation of already existing processes for the re-introduction of post-consumer textile waste into the relevant supply chains (sectorial circularity); 2) the creation of new processes for the recovery of post-consumer textile waste with the development of building products and furniture components with a high recycled content (intersectorial circularity).
Thanks to the comparative environmental assessments of various collection-selection-recycling scenarios, it will also be possible to outline possible new competences for the roles of architects/engineers specialised in waste-management, capable of selecting the best raw-material-second as a new resource for the project in relation to a specific territory.

DABC role

DABC brings to the project expertise in life-cycle design and sustainable design, based on new design methods integrated with environmental assessments from the preliminary stages of project idea development (BIM + LCA). As the management centre of the TEXTILES HUB, it provides expertise and equipment for the realisation and measurement of the performance of materials and semi-finished products during the eco-design process, activating in parallel computational simulations of performance to support the validation of new products.
