Claudio Chesi


ICAR/09 - Structural engineering

Claudio Chesi graduated in Civil Engineering at Politecnico di Milano in 1977.

He has developed his teaching and research activities at Politecnico di Milano in the role of Researcher since 1980, Associate Professor since 1988 and Full Professor since 2002.

He teaches courses in Structural Mechanics and Applied Structural Mechanics at the School of “Architecture Urban Planning Construction Engineering” and in Earthquake Resistant Design at the School of “Civil Environmental and Land Management Engineering”.

He is also active in master courses and in the doctoral course in Preservation of the Architectural Heritage, with special reference to problems related to safety evaluation and conservation of heritage buildings.

The research work is mainly focused on seismic engineering problems, with reference to the structural behaviour of new and existing buildings.

He has taken part to the works of the Commission for the development of the new European seismic code.

For many years, he has been involved in the experimental activities of the laboratory for testing of materials and structures at Politecnico.
